A while back I said that I wanted to make Avenger themed cookies.

Yeah, so that happened. The frosting and cookies are 100% made from scratch and all the designs were piped by hand using a Crisco based pseudo-buttercream. Let's do a close up run down, shall we? (Sorry for the blurriness. My camera really sucks. Blurry pics have been replaced with better ones.)

I want to try making Avenger sugar cookies on my next off day. So far I'm thinking Cap's shield, Tony's faceplate, Clint's bow/arrows, Thor's hammer, and Hulk's fist and/or purple pants as options. I can't decide what I want to try for Natasha, though. Joss seemed pretty fixated on her ass, so maybe that's supposed to be her defining quality? Or maybe I could just do a black widow spider or a bottle of vodka. IDK. Ideas?

Also?

YES.

And you are welcome.

I have officially made and served my first ever wedding cake. \o/ It wasn't tiered, because my friend (the bride) wanted three separate cakes, but it was still super pretty and was AMAZINGLY delicious. Pics to come probably tomorrow. Right now I need to go pass out for a while.

1. I'm so tired. I love my job, but nearly nine hours where I only sit down once is kind of exhausting. On the plus side, bosslady said that once they've trained me more on baking, she might start having me come in on Mondays--we're closed Sunday and Monday--to do some of the baking stuff for the next day. Rachel--who does 95% of the baking--and I are both super okay with this plan.

2. I made gluten free banana muffins from scratch. They are delicious, but a good example of why you shouldn't let your bananas get too ripe when you're baking with them, because there's the slightest bitter aftertaste to them. Sadness.

3. I got my hair cut. Walked in and told my hair person I didn't care what she did, I just wanted it different. That was apparently a good decision. I'm probably going to go in and splurge to get my hair professionally colored (which I've never done before) now that I have my first paycheck and I'm probably going to give Meredith free range on that too.

4. I'm never going to stop thinking that there needs to be a mandatory size for cupcakes on Cupcake Wars, because it always feels like cheating when they have people on there who make the mini cupcakes. How is that fair? They don't have to make as much batter or frosting, so they automatically have an advantage. Boo on that.

5. [livejournal.com profile] rispacooper, [livejournal.com profile] dlasta, and I need someone to write us a Cougar/Jensen/Garcia Criminal Minds/Losers fic. I'm tempted to try to write it myself, but I can barely work up any energy to work on the fics I'm already committed to writing. Who wants to be my hero?

My first task when I went into work this afternoon was to wash, rinse, and sanitize Maurice the Meat Slicer. I was about halfway through when the boss called me into her office to talk for a couple minutes, and when I went back to start cleaning again I just about jumped out of my skin and screamed. There was a spider about the size of my freaking palm in the sanitizer bucket.

Aaaaaand that's when I noticed that Rachel, the manager/owner's niece, was laughing her head off. I looked again and realized it was rubber.

What does it say about me that that's the moment when I really thought, Yeah, I definitely belong here?

I got home from Nashville about midday on Saturday, ended up getting a call from a woman I know through church about a locally owned bakery/deli that was looking for help, spoke with the owner and put in an application that afternoon, got a call back earlier today, and I start at 9am tomorrow! :D

I've spent the last couple days catching up on sleep from my trip to Nashville--LOVED it, especially when we stumbled into the east side, found a great little pub that gave us tips on where to go, and got to take a tour of a local artisan chocolateer place that said they'd sell me cocoa beans and cocoa butter at cost if I ever decide to try making my own chocolate so that I wouldn't have to spend the money to buy in bulk--and falling in love with the show Teen Wolf, but regular LJing, including answering all those comments I'm backlogged on and Daily Drabbles, will resume tomorrow afternoon after I get home from my first day of training at MY NEW JOB!

I'M SO EXCITED!!! :D

Sad day, I know, but I did get to sit next to my future husband at dinner last night, and he gave me a hug and signed my Martyr vocal score. Because my future husband is classy as shit like that, even after two mojitos and however much wine he had at the reception before dinner. I also got a picture with him, which I'll probably draw hearts on and then post here once my friend who took it posts it on facebook.

In other news, I'm backlogged on fanfic stuff since I basically spent the last few days doing nothing but singing and drinking overpriced alcohol. I HAVE been working on things though, and I'll probably post 2-3 stories tomorrow, so I apologize in advance for spamming your flists.

OH OH OH! Guess who has a job interview at a local cafe/bakery place on Friday? FUCK YES, ME, THAT'S WHO! :D

And in the spirit of my happy glee time, let's have a fun meme. Make up a fic title (and share the fandom if you feel so inclined) and I'll tell you what it's about.

I spent my Valentine's Day baking and drinking wine, because I'm single and that's how I roll. Let's break it down, shall we?

THE ACE OF CAKES IS ON IRON CHEF.

OMG, I CAN'T EVEN.

Update: AND HE'S GOING UP AGAINST IRON CHEF MR CLEAN*! *FLAILS*

*That's Iron Chef Michael Symon for those who aren't me.

1. Mom fell off a horse on Sunday and while we thought she was okay, after a second trip to the doctor's it turns out she has four broken ribs and fluids pooling where they're not supposed to be. She's on meds now and we've finally managed to convince her to stay off the elliptical--she walked for about an hour yesterday and I wanted to shake her, except that probably would have hurt her more--so as long she stops doing stupid things and lets herself rest, she should be fine. Dad's been out of town, so I've been doing pretty much everything around the house while simultaneously trying to force her to relax.

2. I was commissioned to make a couple cakes. One was a cheesecake, which I was paid for, and the other was a chocolate cake with maple frosting, which I was mostly not. (They didn't technically pay for the cake itself, but the people I made it for were choir kids and I have a donation jar that I put out when I feed them--which is 2-3 times a week--and they pretty much pay for most of my baking experiments at this point.)

First time doing a basketweave. Weeeeeeeee! )

3. I was distracted by Michael Fassbender's thighs and Tom Hardy's...well, pretty much his everything.

1. I find it hilarious (in an ironic, haha, what the fuck is wrong with you, I hate you sort of way) that I just saw a header with a warning that contained 'slash' AND 'homophobia (internalized and externalized)'. And then there was the other header that said 'Positive feedback delivered in a respectful manner will be gratefully received'. So basically, they only want to hear nice things about themselves? And god forbid you don't treat them like a lady while doling out those compliments. *rolls eyes*

2. I still haven't heard back about the baking job at all. *frets* It's been less than a week. I shouldn't be too worried yet, right? *frets more*

3. A woman who's singing with the college choir on our next concert turned out to have been the food critic for the local paper for about two decades. I tend to take food into rehearsals a lot, which she noticed, and we got to talking about how I want to be a pastry chef. Apparently she knows pretty much the pastry chef in town and she offered--without my even asking, because it honestly never would have ever occurred to me to ask--to ask him if he'd be willing to take me on as an apprentice or an assistant, which would be amazing.

4. I can feel myself wanting to become more and more antisocial/reclusive. *headdesks* Yell at me not to, please? I really don't want to disappear again.

5. I freaking love Haydn.

6. The [livejournal.com profile] cmfanficawards are officially open for nominations for last year's fics. Need to figure out what all I'm going to nominate.

ETA:

7. Sometimes I feel like I'm living out one of the less perky Taylor Swift songs.

8. I feel like I'd probably be going through a super slutty phase right now if I had anyone in my life to be super slutty with and/or like bars/clubs/whatever well enough to actually go to them without being dragged by people.

1. I put in for a baking job this afternoon at a bakery cafe place. I can't even tell you guys how much I want this job. I'd be willing to take a cashier position at the place and spend my off time helping out in the kitchen for free. Maybe I should have put that on the application. Fuck, I really want this job.

2. I'm doing the wedding cakes for one of my best/oldest friends this spring. Unfortunately, her fiance isn't a big cake person and wants a cheesecake for his groom's cake. I can't stand cheesecake most of the time, so I don't even really know where to start. He wants something super plain and not too sweet, so please let me know if anyone has any suggestions.

3. [livejournal.com profile] topetine had an idea for a Stargate Atlantis AU where John Sheppard is pretty much the wild man of the Pegasus galaxy and Rodney stumbles across his planet by accident and falls in instant lust/love/knee-weakening-man-crush with him. There's a chance I might try to write it Harlequin romance novel style. (She gave her blessing. Although she doesn't know about my Harlequin designs on it yet.)

Side note? I really like this icon and should use it more often.

1. I want to make chocolate bacon truffles and/or bacon chocolate chip cookies.

2. Watched Green Lantern and Water for Elephants last night. Ryan Reynalds is lucky he's so pretty, because the only redeeming thing about that movie was his abs. Water for Elephants, otoh, was kind of AMAZING, even though I spent more time than I should have waiting for Robert Pattinson to start sparkling or brooding. He really is a rather talented actor when he's not cast in crap.

3. Clueless is on! Strike a pose and be fabulous, ladies!

Guess who got a super nice KitchenAid mixer complete with paddle, whisk, and dough hook thingy today for $45?

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME, Y'ALL.

(Okay, so it's leaking grease a little bit, BUT the internet says that's a common problem that's easily fixed and youtube has a video that walks you through the entire thing. I still win.)
