"These things have a way of working themselves out," Jack says cheerfully. Ianto has to look at that, because the bastard is grinning, like this is all some kind of joke.
"These things. These things should not happen often enough for you to have formed any sort of opinion about their ability to 'work themselves out'. They think we killed people, Jack. This is not a joke, despite your insistence of treating it as one."
Jack flops sideways enough so that he can rest his head on Ianto's shoulder and peer up at him through his eyelashes. Thankfully, Ianto's built up a resistance to Jack's puppy dog eyes, so he has no trouble with glaring back at him. Jack straightens up with a grin that suggests that he in no way considers this a defeat, just a strategic retreat, and gives Ianto his most charming smile. "You worry too much."
"I know. That's why I decided to go on holiday. I'm still trying to figure out why I let you come with me."
"51st century pheromones," Jack says, which really doesn't work as an excuse after a certain point, but Ianto's willing to excuse it this time if it means he doesn't have to take the blame for Jack being here. "Just sit back and relax. I know the guy who arrested us from a crazy weekend about twenty years ago. I doubt we'll be in here much longer."
Jack smiles and leans back in his seat like it's all a done deal and Ianto starts to mentally compile a list of credible character witnesses for when they inevitably wind up in court.
Prentiss glances around Hotch at the two men in the interrogation room. She doesn't know exactly what they did to put that dark of a scowl on his face, and she's pretty certain she doesn't want to know. She clears her throat and waves a file at Hotch to get his attention.
"The actual unsub is in custody. Morgan and Reid caught him as he was preparing to cut into his latest victim." She pauses when Hotch nods tightly, then glances through the two-way mirror again. "We should let them go, since it looks like they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time."
Hotch frowns and glances at his watch. "You know, I'm thinking it's about time for lunch. Jones is free to go, but I'm going to have to look over Harkness' file again after we eat. Just in case we missed something."
Prentiss quirks an eyebrow. "But we know he didn't do it."
"Trust me," Hotch says darkly, "It's not going to hurt him to wait."

"Once, just once, I'd like to go on holiday without something like this happening," Ianto says, managing not to look at Jack even though they're handcuffed to the same side of the same table. "But no. Trouble is just instinctively drawn to you, and, yes, I'm going with that theory, because the thought of you purposely chasing trouble is too much to even consider right now.""These things have a way of working themselves out," Jack says cheerfully.
