1. If I see one more person warn for slash, ESPECIALLY in the same line as something actually deserving of a warning like dub-con, I think I might scream.

2. I'm having trouble pasting text into the LJ text box. The lines of text always end up breaking and then I have to spend forever scrolling through the whole thing and fixing it so it doesn't look like I'm trying to pull some e.e. cummings shit. Anyone else having this problem?

3. I'm getting kind of tired of seeing characters with eidetic memories popping up all over television, especially when their eidetic memory is presented as their biggest defining characteristic.

4. I'm putting together a picspam entirely devoted to dimples. I'm super excited about this. \o/ THardy doesn't really have dimples, so let's go ahead and post a couple pictures of him now so that I won't be sad later when he isn't in my picspam.

Eidetic memories portrayed as a good thing really gets me. Because seriously, the human mind has mechanisms to help people forget things *on purpose*. Imagine not having that. Yeah. Suckage.

I can't remember the name of it right now, but I read a manga years ago where one of the main characters was a violent, mistrustful asshole to pretty much everyone. The reason why? His eidetic memory meant he remembered every horrible thing that had ever happened to him--and some of them were REALLY horrible--and he never developed coping mechanisms, so he just lashed out instead in an attempt to keep people the hell away from him. :(

No coping mechanisms? Yes. An author really thinking about what they're doing, that's something I like to see. (I mean, not that I do it, for I am lazy, but I like it when authors take a concept and really, really think about the consequences).

Overall it was handled pretty well and really interestingly, but the whole thing was a subplot in the main story to further his relationship with the main female character and it kind of had a shark jumping moment at the end where he tried to (managed to?) blow up a building. I remember wishing that the mangaka would drop the other two characters in the love triangle that the story focused on and just do the entire story about him.

Was it a go on forever kind of manage or a definite series with a real ending? Because sometimes I get the feeling the authors just aren't used to building a cohesive arc where things get resolved.

Speaking of which....I think there's a new Hellsing.

It was a definite series with a real ending. I've always tended to steer clear of the never ending ones. ;)

I mean, look at FAKE. As adorable as it was at times, there were like...five books that didn't need to happen all full of the same thing and then bam! ending out of nowhere.

From: [identity profile] coffeebuddha.livejournal.com
Ugh, I hate when that happens. If it doesn't develop the characters or further the plot, cut it.

Plus you know, in FAKE, the wrong people ended up together. There was way more tension with everyone with that "jerk" boss guy, but nooo everyone has to want the scared blond doesn't have sex/scared of gay guy.

Double ugh. Sometimes I wonder if it's a cultural disconnect sort of thing, because it seems like that sort of thing happens a LOT in manga/anime. Or maybe crappy writing is just multicultural. =P

FAKE. Two *cough* New York *cough* detectives *cough cough cough* fall in love, or something. One is openly bisexual and slutty (Did I mention New York cops?) and the other apparently never has sex ever.

Slutty bisexual chases after him for seven books with ridiculous "cases" with scenes usually ending in, "no,no no yes, NO!" only to suddenly culminate in (consensual?) buttsex at the end.

Oh, I remember that one now! I think I got about two books in and got distracted by something better. Glad I didn't waste my time on the entire thing. =P

I think it was one of the early non-rape yaoi manga and so it's mostly well known for that reason and not like...because it's good.

...still vaguely rapey though. I think some yaoi artists are confused about the difference between this is uncomfortable/painful face and this feels good face.

I remember people reccing the hell out of it when I was first getting into yaoi and then reading it and wondering what the appeal was. That makes a lot more sense.

I've noticed that too. =/

To be fair to the slutty bisexual whose name I can't remember, he *did* eat the other guy out first. So... there's that.

Hey you got recced on crack_van just now!

I saw! I'm kind of ping ponging between disbelief and flailing right now. I never expected to ever get recced on there, especially with a rare pair ficlet like that. XD

I passed over it the first time not seeing it was crack_van and was like, oh she has a new ficlet, I will read it in a second, and then my brain went, wait, why did she format it all crack_van style? haha

It's all part of my diabolical plot to try to convince people I'm better than I actually am. ;)

Everyone should format that way!

"Why you should read this fic: BECAUSE IT'S AWESOME."

Hahaha! I might have to actually do that the next time I post something I really like.

"Because I rock at porn."

Or, to be honest, I'd be like, "Because there is fingerbanging."

Doesn't that say it all?

1. I especially 'love' that slash warning when the fic is being posted to a slash comm.

3. I'm tired of genius characters that don't work. (I'm looking at you, Joss Whedon.) You need a very good actors for this, with oodles of charisma. And if you need to constantly say how smart they are so they audience will know, it's entirely possible that there's a reason why you need to repeat it.

Date: 2011-09-27 03:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] coffeebuddha.livejournal.com
1. I get that most of the time they're crossposting and just don't bother to change their headers. It's still dumb as fuck though.

3. Ugh. Agreed. And as a general rule, if you have to constantly remind the audience about anything about the character, chances are you're doing it wrong. *sigh*

1. If we can deduce this from the ship, really, no need to warn.
Also, I hate this trend where every little thing 'needs' a warning.

3. So, so many shows ruined with this. UGh.

1. Slash is NOT something to warn against, it is something to run towards, fast!

2. The 'updates' LJ has made to their posting site is crapola IMHO, I have so many problems posting you'd never believe me *pouts*

3. I've only seen the eidetic memory with Reid, and they don't actually stuff it down our throats all that much with him, plus it's almost one of his lesser charactaristics.

4. If you are doing a dimples picspam, you NEED to remember Bradley Whitford (Josh Lyman from The West Wing) He has the most adorable dimples ever :) Points to icon.

2. Don't even get me started on all the trouble I've been having with cuts. >.< I love LJ, but I'm leaning more and more toward switching over to Dreamwidth and just using the crosspost option. Maybe that'll work better for me.

3. It seems to be popping up all over the place here in the US. The one that pushed me over the edge is about some lady cop whose sole characteristic is that she never forgets anything. Seriously. That appears to be the the only point to the show.

4. Included a pic just for you! :D You're welcome to post more pics of him in the comments if you feel so inclined, because that's a nice set of dimples.

1. I know, LJ is really trying my patience!

3. Urgh, that's awful!

4. Thank you :) See, I still haven't figured out how to post pics in a comment *hides*

4. I use photobucket. All you have to do is upload the picture to the site and when you go to your album and hover your mouse over the picture, a little mini menu pops up. On of the options on the menu is for an HTML code. All you have to do is paste the code into the comment box and instant pictures. :)
