coffeebuddha: (heels bigger than your dick)
1. I hate my LJ layout. Actually, I hate all of them. All of them. How is it that there isn't a single music themed layout that doesn't suck? I'm not asking for anything elaborate. Just something soft and pretty with notes on it. How is that so hard to find? If I had any talent at all with graphics, I'd make my own. *grumbles*

2. I don't care if people have conversations in the comments of my fics. I really, truly don't. BUT if you have an entire conversation with someone about their icon without ever saying a single word about the fic, it really pisses me off. That's just rude. *grumbles*

3. I'm ridiculously sensitive to certain things, like any repetitive motion/sound (a foot or a finger tapping, for instance) or the sound of fingers moving over corduroy. It feels like there's something underneath my skin, scratching at me with tiny pieces of glass, pushing to be let out. It makes my stomach clench and my head hurt and my entire body ache. If I'm exposed to it long enough, I'll actually throw up. I know it's bizarre. I know that. But you know what, parents who have known me for 20+ years? This probably shouldn't still surprise you so much that you think I'm faking or treat me like a freak when I ask you to stop. *grumbles*

4. My laptop's a piece of shit and it'll probably be at least another year before I can afford a new one. *grumbles*

5. Writing's hard. *grumbles*

While I don't go around advertising it, it isn't a secret that I was sexually assaulted when I was little or that my mom was raped and abused by her father for years before she was finally able to get someone to remove him from their house when she was a teenager. Rape is never the victim's fault. It is not our responsibility to keep people from raping us. It's other people's responsibility to not rape. I don't care what that child was wearing-and you'll notice that not once did the article say she was dressed slutty, just 'older'-there is no fucking excuse for acting like this is in any way anyone's fault but the men who perpetrated the horrible, disgusting act. I just hope and pray that they're held fully accountable for the harm they've done to this little girl and that the people around her support her, reassure her it isn't her fault, and get her any and all help that she might need.

Well, there goes my good mood for the day.

NYTimes, the bastion of quality reporting, reported on the gang-rape of an 11 year-old girl in Texas  that's led to charges against 18 high-school boys so far - all well and good so far, right?  Shit like this NEEDS publicity to raise awareness.

Only problem is, they repeated - without refutation or critical commentary - the claims that the girl brought the rape on herself because of the way she was dressed.

Choice Quotes (No cut b/c everyone needs to see this - DEAL.):

“It’s just destroyed our community,” said Sheila Harrison, 48, a hospital worker who says she knows several of the defendants. “These boys have to live with this the rest of their lives.  As opposed to the victim, who's gonna bounce back lickety-fucking-split, right?

Residents in the neighborhood where the abandoned trailer stands — known as the Quarters — said the victim had been visiting various friends there for months. They said she dressed older than her age, wearing makeup and fashions more appropriate to a woman in her 20s. She would hang out with teenage boys at a playground, some said.  TOTALLY BEGGING FOR IT.

THIS IS RAPE CULTURE, PEOPLE.

Now, what's being said and done in this community is bad enough, but the NY Times should be fucking ashamed of themselves right now.
