There's no way her hair isn't a complete mess right now, but Penelope can't really bring herself to care. The wind whips through it, pulling apart the artfully sloppy twists and curls she'd painstakingly arranged it in a few hours ago in a matter of minutes. She tips her head back and laughs, the sound lost in the rush of air in her ears. Aaron's arms tighten around her and they're falling, fast and reckless. She shrieks, her arms squeezing around Aaron's neck, but she doesn't close her eyes, even though it feels like her stomach's lodged in her throat.

Instead, Penelope watches Aaron, memorizing how relaxed his usually tense face is and the easy curve of his all too rare grin. This should be terrifying-she's never done all that well with heights-but it isn't, even with the ground rushing toward them; if anything, she's tempted to fling her arms wide and give up all control to Aaron. He won't drop her. There aren't many things she trusts to be steady and reliable in her life, but he's one of them. She believes in him, and that's miles more terrifying than the fact that they're zipping through the air like Superman and Lois Lane with nothing between her and the ground but Aaron's arms.

The trees below them are getting closer and closer, so close that if she wanted, Penelope could probably reach out and skim the tops with her hand. Before she has a chance to try it though, Aaron's wings snap open and catch a current, lifting them back up. Penelope laughs again, her lips close enough to Aaron's ear that she knows he can hear it, and then he's laughing with her and they're spinning and looping, executing insane acrobatics. It's not exactly what she had in mind when Aaron suggested they go away for a few days to a little cabin that's apparently been in his family for generations. Sex? Sure-and they'll get to that later now that she knows why Aaron's been so reluctant to get naked around her-they'll get to that later. Cuddling in front of a fire? It's summer, but the cabin has air conditioning, so that's doable. Romantic, candlelit dinners? Those are a given, even if they are a bit cliche.

But flying? Well, Penelope reasons, she's always liked trying new things and it's not like Aaron makes the top ten list of weirdest guys that she's dated, even with the wings. She kisses him, a fast, smacking kiss that makes him laugh again, and shouts, "Do a barrel roll!"
