Ethan was actually only in one episode of CM. He was an old friend of Reid's who joined the FBI Academy at the same time as Spencer, but then dropped out and pursued a career as a jazz musician. Shortly after Spencer's ordeal in "Revelations" (you saw that ep), he ditches the team in New Orleans to go and listen to Ethan play.
