Jenny and Kevin meet like this. It's the first day of second grade and Jenny's family just moved to New York a little over a week ago. She's nervous and homesick, but she has her best blue butterfly barrette in her hair and the 'million dollar smile' her daddy says she inherited from her mom firmly plastered on her face. Miss Mackie puts her at a table with two other girls and a boy. The girls barely spare a glance for her before turning together to whisper, effectively shutting her out, but the boy scoots his chair a little closer and grins.
"I like your hair thing," he says. There's what looks like the remnants of sparkly purple fingernail polish on his left thumbnail and her barrette is the same color as his eyes.
"Thank you," she says, shyness finally making her as polite as her grandmother's always harped about. Then, on impulse, she adds, "You can wear it. If you'd like."
His answering grin's maybe not quite worth a million dollars, but Jenny's willing to bet it comes pretty close.
Halfway through third grade, Blake Stewart transfers to their school. He's mean, rude, and repeating the grade, so he's bigger than everyone else in the class. Jenny doesn't like him. Still, her grandmother's always told her to treat people the way you want to be treated, so Jenny's as nice to him as she can stand to be.
Well, until the second week of February. They're outside for PE, everyone too bundled up to really play, but trying their hardest anyway. Within the first few minutes Jenny gets sucked into a game of jump rope, which Kevin's always hated--no matter how hard he tries, his feet always get tangled up in the rope--and it's too easy to lose track of him. It isn't until Sally Peters comes running up that Jenny even realizes anything is wrong.
Blake has Kevin boxed into a fenced in corner at the far end of the playground, where the teachers never seem to look. His lip is bloodied, a splash of red staining the front of his pink shirt, and his eyes are bright with tears that aren't falling yet.
"God, you're such a fag," Blake says, his fist already drawing back to hit him again, and Jenny snaps.
It's not a secret, but Jenny's never exactly advertised the fact that her daddy was a heavyweight boxing champion before she was born and now runs a gym where he trains some of the best fighters in the state. Mr. O'Malley has always been a strong believer in teaching his children how to defend themselves. One punch is all it takes to have Blake on the ground and crying, but Jenny keeps hitting until the teacher comes over and pulls her off anyway.
All three of them end up suspended for a week for fighting, but when her dad comes to pick up her and Kevin, he takes them out for ice cream and spends the rest of the week teaching Kevin how to throw and take a punch, so she's not complaining.

First commenter gets to pick the next prompt! When requesting, please keep in mind that I try to keep these between 100-500 words. For a list of my fandoms and squicks, go here. The list is worth checking out again even if this isn't your first rodeo, because it's just gone through a major overhaul. AUs, crack, genderbending, etc are all welcome in addition to more canon compliant prompts.
IMPORTANT: I'm embarrassingly behind on, well, pretty much everything at this point, so please keep the spoilers for the latest season anything still airing that's on my list AWAY from my journal in your prompts and comments. Thanks!
