A woman in my church choir taught me how when I was in high school and then I realized that I had a much easier time paying attention in class if I was doing something easy and repetitive like knitting while I was listening to the lecture--though not all of my teachers believed me on that one... :(--so I got really good at plain stitches and purling from that. Then I got to college and my two best friends were knitters, so I kept up with it. I've never had the coordination, attention span, or inclination to do anything complicated, but I like knitting in the winter because it helps keep my hands warm.
