Since I'm officially down 30lbs since February and because it's freaking summer in Alabama, I decided to get a haircut to celebrate/not get sunstroke. Also, this is probably the closest I've been to my natural hair color in about four years. Oooooh yeeeeah.

Isn't it cute and kicky? I have no idea what it's going to look like once I've showered and my borderline incompetent hands have had a go at styling it, but for now it's all sorts of awesome. :D

So, I don't know who did it since neither of my usual suspects-[livejournal.com profile] topetine and [livejournal.com profile] luredin-submitted nominations, but somebody nominated Serious and Inconsequential as Best Oneshot for this year's [livejournal.com profile] cmfanficawards. I've never had my writing nominated for anything before and I'm about ten different kinds of tickled and flattered right now, so a huge thank you to whoever did this! :D

That's right! I have awesome readers! How awesome? So awesome that because of a joking comment I made, one of them made me this!

So many thanks to the lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] 1986s! I can't stress enough how much I love this picture. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to making cooing noises and petting my computer screen. ^.^

[info]evraealtana wrote a fic for me. It is truly the finest caliber of literature. Once you have read it, all other stories will be like dirt beneath your feet. Do you smell that? That is the smell of sheer brilliance. Read this fic. You know you want to.

Everything that is good in the world is behind this link.

[livejournal.com profile] topetine made me a new icon.  Not only that, but she's offered to make individual Team Ethan/Team Derek icons with their pictures on them. Next time you wonder why I love her and not you, remember this and you'll have your answer. ^.^

Speaking of The Way You Lie, part three is officially up. Just in case you missed it. Took forever, but it's over a thousand words longer than either of the other parts, so maybe that'll help make up for it a little. Maybe? A teeny, tiny bit? Come on, guys, don't be that way. You know you want to read it and tell me how amazing I am.

I feel like I'm walking a very thin line with Ethan. I want him to be someone who's very loyal and protective of the select few he decides are worth it, but at the same time I want to avoid turning him into the cliched 'badass with a heart of gold'. Because 95% of the time, he is an ass who doesn't really give a shit about the people around him and will actually go out of his way to annoy/hurt them if they do something that pisses him off. On the one hand, I love writing him because he had so little screen time and I can basically write him any way I want and be right. On the other hand, he had so little screen time that I can basically write him any way I want and be right, so he's very nearly an original character, which is dangerous/scary territory in fanfiction.

In other news, it's FALL! Which means the season of eating has officially started. Hurray! I love food. I love food more than is healthy, which is why my hips are wide and my stomach is squishy. In light of the cooling weather, I decided to share a few of my favorite recipes-some old, some new-which make for perfect comfort food. These are pretty much the recipes as I have them written down-with the exception of the coconut soup, which I'll explain when I get there-but it's worth noting that I tend to use recipes more as a guide than anything else. I like to fiddle with them as I go, so the recipes below aren't exactly the same as what I'd do in my own kitchen.

Pumpkin Bread )

Apple Bread )

Coconut and Tofu Thai Soup )

Coffee Brownies )

I think that's it for today! Now off to practice for my conducting midterm. Hurray for classes I'm required to take even though I hope to never conduct a day of my professional life!

If you've been following me long enough, then you might have picked up on the fact that I'm a reluctant country girl. I have a barn and everything.

I have a pretty dress that I made out of an ugly dress! It was floor length, had shoulder pads, and had buttons going up the front, all of which are very Not Me, so I whipped out my seam ripper and got rid of the pads and the buttons and sewed up the front. Then I adjusted the neck to make it more open in the front and back. Finally, I brought it up to knee length and turned the excess material into a sash, which was just long enough to make into an adorable bow. The back still doesn't fall quite right, so I'll probably go back and add another seam down the back so that it drapes better, but overall I'm much happier with it than I expected to be. I especially love the kind of funky way the pattern meets up in the front.

I've been really inspired by the blog New Dress A Day since I stumbled across it a few days ago and I ended pulling out my sewing machine and going to town on a few things I got from thrift stores. One still needs to be dyed, but I just finished my Asian bathrobe-turned-vest and I'm too excited not to share it. I ripped out the ridiculously thick terrycloth lining, removed the sleeves, took off about a foot and a half from the bottom, and then hemmed all the loose ends. The picture's not the greatest, but it's super cute and flattering in real life. *flails happily*

Best part? It has pockets!
